Please see the FAQ or contact us if you have any additional questions!

QUESTIONS

PROMPTS:

How do I submit a prompt?
Prompts will be submitted via Google Form; we will add the link when prompting opens.

Do I have to participate in writing if I submit a prompt?
No, but we would appreciate it if you also decided to write!

Can I submit more than one prompt?
Yes, you can submit as many prompts as you like!

Can I write for my own prompt/self-prompt?
While we encourage participants to select a new prompt, self-prompting is allowed; please submit your self-prompt during the claiming/sign-up period, not during the general prompt submission period.

CLAIMS:

How do I claim a prompt?
Claims will be submitted via Google Form; we will add the link when claiming opens.

Can I claim more than one prompt?
You may only claim one prompt to start with. If you finish your fic for the first prompt and submit it to us before the deadline, you may claim another prompt.

Can more than one person claim the same prompt?
No, multiple people cannot claim the same prompt and write separate fics. If you would like to co-author a single fic for a single prompt, please contact us and we will instruct you how to fill out your claims form.

FICS:

Do I need to complete my fic before the deadline?
While we encourage authors to submit complete fics, we will accept incomplete chaptered fics as long as the first chapter meets the minimum 1k word count and is submitted by the deadline. We will not accept WIPs.

What if I don't think I can finish my fic on time?
Please contact the mods ASAP if you're concerned about finishing your fic on time. We may be able to grant an extension (the earlier you ask, the better!) If you want to drop out, please let us know as well.

What happens to my claimed prompt if I drop out?
Your claimed prompt will go back up for claiming if you drop out.

Can I work on a WIP/an in-progress fic?
Since this is an anonymously-posted fest, we are not able to accept contributions to fics that you have already posted before. We will accept submissions of fics that have not previously been posted but you were working on before joining the fest (please claim this as a self-prompt during the claiming period).

How do I submit my fic?
All fics will be submitted via AO3; the mods will send an email to participants closer to the submission deadline with more specific instructions.

If you have any questions that we have not answered here, feel free to get in touch with us via Twitter or Curious Cat!

2021 OPEN ROUND QUESTIONS

PROMPTS:

Can I submit a prompt?
We are not accepting new prompts for the open round. If you would like to participate in this round, please select a prompt from our 2021 Round List!

Can I write for my own prompt/self-prompt?
No. We are only accepting fics written for prompts from our 2021 Round List for this open round. If you have an existing WIP that you think is similar to one of the prompts, you may modify your WIP and claim the prompt. We will not accept fics that were not based off of one of our prompts.

CLAIMS:

How do I claim a prompt?
There is no formal claiming process - simply choose a prompt that interests you and write for it!

Can more than one person write for the same prompt?
You cannot write for a prompt that was claimed in the main round (marked in red). While we would appreciate it if you selected a prompt that has not previously been written for, you may write your fic based on a prompt that someone else has already written for in the open round (marked in blue).

Please note that some prompts marked in red may not appear in the 2021 round collection; they were claimed by writers in the main round who were unable to post at that time but are still planning to submit their fics later on. We still have plenty of other prompts to choose from, though!

FICS:

Is there a certain time I need to finish my fic by?
No, you can write and submit at your own pace.

Is there a word count minimum?
Yes, 1,000 words minimum.

Can I work on an existing WIP/in-progress fic?
This collection is intended to be for fics inspired by prompts from our 2021 round. If you have an existing WIP that you think is similar to one of the prompts, you may modify your WIP and claim the prompt. We will not accept fics that were not based off of one of our prompts.

How do I submit my fic?
All fics must be submitted via AO3 to our AO3 collection, and you will need an AO3 account to submit your fic. You can either click “Post to Collection” from the Eleventh Hour 2021 Open Round AO3 collection page, or type in “eleventhhour2021_openround” in the “Associations” section on your AO3 work page.

Please DM or email the mods if you need assistance submitting your fic!

The collection is unmoderated, meaning that your fic will immediately appear in the collection without needing mod approval. However, the mods reserve the right to remove your fic from the collection if it breaks any of the rules/guidelines (not a 2021 round prompt, contains any banned subject matter, etc.)

Do I need to include anything specific in my fic post?
Yes! Please include the number of the prompt you are writing for in the author’s note of your fic so we can be sure that you’re writing for this collection. You do not need to include the full text of the prompt, but you can summarize it if you wish. If we do not see the prompt number in your A/N, we will leave a comment on your fic letting you know to include it and may remove your fic from the collection if it’s not added.

Please also be sure that your fic is tagged appropriately (e.g. genre tags, warnings, etc.)

How do I promote my fic?
If you have your own Twitter account, you can tag @eleventhourmods and we will retweet your fic post. If you do not have a Twitter account, please email the mods and we will make a promotional post on your behalf. We will compile a thread of all fics for the open round for easy browsing!

Please note that we might not retweet/post promotional tweets immediately after you tweet/submit a fic, but we will try to do so within 72 hours. If we do not retweet/post your fic after 72 hours, please send us a DM or email! We may not have received a mention notification or email from you.

If you have any questions that we have not answered here, feel free to get in touch with us via email at [email protected], Twitter, or Curious Cat!

If you have questions about your specific posting circumstances or fic, please send us an email or DM so we can advise you directly.
